TIAAccording to the Toy Industry Association (TIA), following the recent passage of New York county laws that would ban the sale of certain toys in Albany, Suffolk, and Westchester counties, momentum is growing to pass a new chemical regulation law impacting toys at the state level.

With the legislative session currently scheduled to end on June 17, the TIA is calling on New York-based companies to take action to help stop the bill, which would ban the sale of toys and children’s products containing certain chemicals, including naturally occurring elements that cannot be removed from products.

Toy companies are encouraged to take a moment to send a pre-written letter to their legislator urging them to oppose S. 4102, which includes the chemical bans. Interested parties can access the letter at the TIA website, and once they input their name and address into the form, the system will automatically send the letter to their local representative. The sample letter can be edited to include a personal story or anecdote.

Any questions may be directed to David Garriepy, TIA director of state government affairs, at (703) 389-5436.
